Capacity Building

Creating the climate for development includes helping nations nurture the human resources they need to take charge of advancing their initiatives. Whether it is a project in health information systems development, in e-governance strategy formulation, or in poverty reduction, capacity building is essential for effective collaboration and for long-term sustainability. Thus every programme operated by UNU-IIST includes some element of capacity building. The institute utilizes its diverse resources to craft appropriate capacity building solutions depending on specific needs.  Capacity building can address needs of multiple organizations across a given sector or focus on needs of a particular institution. Capacity building activities take many forms including published training materials, focused workshops, training and mentoring programs, tailored programs of study in our degree programmes, and expert consultation. In all its work, the institute places an emphasis on use of ICT tools to make capacity building efforts more effective.

“You have to invest in something to get back something. Investing in capacity building is important.”
