Capacity building workshop in Laos
The UNU-IIST project ICT-Enabled Education for Poverty Reduction has been creating its own momentum since its launch early last year. On 7 February 2012, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Lao PDR held an introduction workshop with participants from twelve districts of six provinces. The participants also included members of Information Working Group from each department within the Ministry. The workshop introduced the software, developed by UNU-IIST and University of Bremen, to extension staff from District Agriculture and Forestry Offices, Technical Service Centers and Village Development Centers. The PRAM Knowledge Sharing Network (KSN) software is an online environment that supports horizontal and vertical communication among officials in district, provincial, and national offices to support ongoing poverty reduction initiatives. The platform enables district officers to share information about local level poverty reduction projects in a peer-to-peer learning environment, to ask questions of experts in the various departments of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and it supports the Ministry in disseminating information to the district level. The Ministry has now installed computers and also provided onsite training of staff in the use of the PRAM-KSN in all the twelve of the districts. This training workshop follows on the deployment of the PRAM-KSN in January 2012.
